Honda 1986 trx 200sx performance
hello all im new here but not new to quads.
i have a trx 200sx that i used to ride when i got into duning and now since i have my 250r i dont use it do to the lack of power.
but i want to make it more powerful and i know that it wont make huge amounts of power but could i get some decent numbers like 25hp with a high comp piston and overbore and maybe a some head work and custom exhaust and header(carb and intake manifold too)?
i also wanted to make a smoother suspension for the front like maybe a +2 +1 setup and extent the swing arm even if it means custom extension
this bike is great its still never been rebuilt..looks mint and has been through three family riders and countless rolls! plus it doenst even smoke at all!
thnaks a lot for your help

I have the same quad. Mine has less than 40 hours on it and it is like new. To be honest, if it were me, I'd leave it alone for 2 reasons, well actually 3. 1. It is a super reliable bike as is and if you mess with it, that might change. 2. You'll be hard pressed to get the power you want out of it no matter what you do to it. 3. The suspension is stiff because it doesn't have much ground clearance. If you change that, 1. it's gonna be expensive and 2. it might not work. I'd leave that baby be and buy something else that has readily available mods or buy something that is ready as is. Just my 2 cents.

yeah i know that its not a sport quad thas why i got my 250r! lol but i just hate to see it just sit in the garage cuz no one wants to use it. would freshening it up be a good idea? as well as having the valves checked? i think porting wouldnt compromise the reliability. and i might try to make a free flowing intake for it as well. plus the exhaust seems cramped and too small for it.

Now THAT sounds like a much better idea. Freshen it up with a valve job, rebuilt carb, maybe check compression & new rings if needed. But you have to remember that even in the shape it's in, you have, at tops, an $800 machine there. So, be careful not to go overboard. I guess what I'm saying is if you have to put $600 in it, you might as well sell it for $800 and add $600 to it and buy a used 250 - 400 that you can work with. Because even if you put $600 in it, it will still only be worth $800. And also, the suspension will always be what it is...Stiff & short (ok, no comments). But also, I'm wondering if there really is something wrong with it. I mean, it's not a bad quad for power. It's not a racing machine but it shouldn't be so bad that nobody wants to ride it. I have a 87 250X that runs like a scalded cat and my wife rides the 200SX and she can almost keep up with me. The 200SX is light, quick handling, and can be alot of fun. And the auto clutch is nice.
