finally put on my wiring harness.
how do you start the atv? do you just have to push the electric start button or what?
like my other atv will only start if the clutch is pulled in.
im clueless at this point....

well just got home, started looking at pictures of the wiring harness and figured out where you plug in the neutral and reverse light. I figured out that the positive and negative are connected together on both neutral and reverse, hopefully this is my problem. If not, I'll go to my honda dealership and buy a repair manual.

(((( to start the 300ex either put it in netural,or pull in the clutch)))
..
(how to trick the netural light))where the netural reverse light wires connect together on the left side of the machine ....un plug them ,then ground the two wires going away fron the crank case ....turn on the key the nutral light should be on .(even if its in gear).this will enable the start button.
..
.also there should be two wires that go to your clutch lever perch so you can start it in gear(by pulling in the clutch)some aftermarket clutch lever purches dont have the switch ..in this case hook the two wires together ....and rember to pull in the clutch before trying to start...

I dont have the neutral or reverse light.
What do you mean when you say ground the two wires going away from the crankcase?

there not working? or are they missing?
.my camera is dead so i cant get a pic rnow
.
.
but pull your rear fender off...
now on the left side of the quad there is a large rubber boot on the wiring harness
slide it back to expose the wire connections here..
...disconnect the green and purple wires ....
now if you are facing the wires you juist unpluged ,the two going to the left are the two we need ....now plug them together, and connect a spare peice of wire to this connection ...now connect the other end of the spare peice of wire to either the (-)side of the battery or to the frame ..........and try the start button......
