I have an old air cooled 250R and a YZ 490 and they both squeak at the shock. I have tried oil and WD40 and they still squeak..... It's the FM theory. If it really annoys you take apart the steering stem and oil it up good that should work and if it doesn't ask somebody else.

I had the same problem and found that it was the shock bushing. I had good luck by taking shocks off and using white grease on the bushing. Mine was squeaking only when I was on the quad, when the shocks were compressed. Hope this helps you some.

Mine was squeaking also when I turned the wheel. It was my top bushing on the steering stem. I pulled it apart and put some white grease on it and it took care of the problem. Hope this helps.
