Read this from a Honda dealer Mechanic. ATV Mechanics interviews

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Hondas was summed up in one comment made by a mechanic we interviewed: "Drum brakes belong on trailers, not on quads! With that being said, the mechanics we interviewed all complained that, regardless of the their triple-sealed nature, these brakes get water, mud, and grime in them and become essentially useless. The fix for this problem is a disc brake conversion like the one available through Yasky ATV Accessories (www.yaskyatv.com).</end quote></div>

Its just the nature of the beast for drums to fail.

I believe he has a 300ex sport quad, which will have a disc brake in back, not the drum. Shorty, have you replaced the pads and now have no brakes ,or did they just stop working? Air in the line will compress, and give you little or no pressure to the caliper and fail to stop the quad. If the pads are totally worn, it would be best to replace them, bleed the brakes, adjust the parking brake takeup bolt, and see how it works then.

TLC, do you think the brakes on my 250ex are going to die at any point soon then? I've had them in mud countless times halfway up the tires, and water as well. Once it got stuck and couldn't be pulled out without pulleys and sat for 2 hours...
