TRX250EX Wheel/Tire combo
#1
My 2006 TRX250EX needs new tires. Can anyone recommend a quality set of tires for general trail/turf riding? I'm not against changing tire/wheel size to obtain the best improvment in handling and grip.
Thanks

I like ITP's Holeshot series of tires. I run the XC's, but we ride desert.
As for rims, we run ITP T-9's. They are wider than stock and have a greater offset, so that makes the quad several inches wider, for a nice increase in stability! The T-9's can be a little fragile in the wrong hands (can bend lips, but the Holeshots protect the lip quite well), so if you want an indestructible rim get the ITP Bajas.

itp's are nice tires but theres alot of other holeshot type tires that can be obtained cheaper....as for size your stock size will handle the best...I have kenda claws on my 250x (rear)and i love them (itp hole shots front)..any of theese should be better than stock tires ..the hole shots will handle a little better, and the kenda claws will be more grippy(for mud and loose terrain)
.
the baja rims are sweet...and for trail riding a xc (cross country) tire will defaintly be best ..

I'm running the stock front tires since they still have good tread on them. On the rear I'm running ITP Holeshot HD's in the rear (20-11-9). Mud Lites would dig really well but it would be hard to slide the rear end around. What I'd like to do is get another set of rims so I could switch tires out without changing them. When I get new fronts the will probably be Holeshots or Razr's too.

i read a magazine comparison of different sport tires wher they tested the different brands on the same sport quad in a varity of conditions ....and unbeliveablely the carslile turf tamers were the best all around tire though other brands came in #1 in a single terrain type
.
.
my 250x had some 40%tread dry rotted turftamers on it when i bought it they handled the trails great and made it through the mud (requires alot of spinning ,but they dont dig much so the same mud hole is fun for a long time)
.
.
I eventually blew the dry rotted tires and got the kenda claws ...they increased excelleration but reduced handling ,and when mudding they dig out the hole quickly so it becomes a place to get stuck..........a shock adjustment fixed my reduced handeling

I had turf tamers on the kids quads back when, and although they were descent, the traction blocks are to closely spaced to get traction in a lot of situations.

i agree that the turf tamers dont have the bite of a hole shot ...
.
if you want the best sport quad tire itp hole shots are the way to go ....as far as tire size goes ...the stock size will handle the best without futher mods....
.
.if you rarley get to top speed and want more acceleration then going down to 20"
tires in the rear will lower your top speed a bit and increase exceleration....
.
the smaller tires will also spin on demand eaiser allowing you to drift through the corners (you may not be racing but powering around the turns is a blast)

These shocks are not adjustable! The rear suspension is probably the only complaint I have on this quad. It comes off the Recon utility and is shaft drive, so that limits what can be done in terms of suspension.....
