Default Grinding Gears.

I have a 1998 300EX. It has been running fine, but I recently noticed that in 2nd gear, if I hit the gas to spin the tires, the gears make an awful grinding noise. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you have any suggestions of what to do?

Default Grinding Gears.

After making sure it is not a rear axle bearing, the engine may need removing and the gears and bearings on the transmission need to be inspected. If one end of the main or countershaft goes out, the shaft will be allowed to let the gears not mess totally in some gears. An inner gear sleeve could have worn out or the inner gear mesh teeth can be damaged. One more thing... Bent shift fork.
Reguardless the engine will need be split

"Can I do it"

Only you can answer that. If you would/could strip a car or truck gearbox, then no problem, the bike box is not quite as complex. If not, then maybe you should get a motorcycle or Quad mechanic to do it.
