In my opinion, don't get a 2 stroke if you plan to trail ride. You have to ride them too hard to keep them from loading up. Just my 2 cents.

i just rebuilt my friends 87 lt250r for the first time ever!! it is a power house. the banshee is sweet also but when you have to fix something you have to fix two!! 2 rods 2 pistons 2 gaskets... you know what i mean!

The Shee of course has a higher top speed, seeing it is a 350 twin and the Honda is a 250. The big thing it handling. The Shee frame/suspension is just plain lame! Sure, it was OK back 20 years ago, but by todays standards it is terrible. Remember, anetures talk speed, but pros talk handling!

On the other hand, the 250 has great handling! It is the most copied machine in history. Every 400 and 450 out there is nothing but an updated copy of the 250.

If all you do is drag race or dune, then the Shee is ok. If you trail ride and ride the track, then the 250 is the way to go.

Keep in mid that these will be "project quads". You will do as much wrenching as you will riding. Got to say, that all my friends have unloaded their old Shees, and gone to 4-strokes. One of them still has a 250, and I would buy it from him in a minute if he would ever sell it.........

i'v owned a banshee before and like go-hard said there is two of everything for the engine...the carbs a the biggest pain in the ***, mine were always falling out of synce so i bought a single carb set up and that helped. wanna pipe it...gotta buy two, pistons two, rods two..and so on. i gotta say this though when i got it running right it screamed and sounded nasty with t5 pipes.

imo if your looking for a 2 stroke wheeler go with the honda its more simple plus it has alot of aftermarket support.

I own a 82 250R and I think You would be better off with a 250R VS Banshee. Those banshee's are soooo unreliable.

if your going to be hitting the trails id consider 4-stroke 2-strokes are prone to foul plugs just putting them around but if you want all out speed id go for a 250r they are very versatile Ive had 2 86s and an 87 quads and an 86 cr250 doesn't take much to make them ridiculously fast but maintenance as stated before is much more often im not sure what kinda person you are i love my 2-strokes but kinda become a burden of sorts having to mix fuel change jets figure out what heat plug you want to run if your looking to becoming a serious hard core rider id say 2stroke but if you are just going to go put around the woods every so often id go 4 stroke the 400ex is a great bike good power good torque electric start and reasonably priced

Rode my 250R on trails all the time never fouled plugs just have them jetted right and clean 'em out once in a while IMO 250R motor will last twice as long as a 450 and a 450 will cost twice as much to rebuild.250R are easier to start and less to go wrong.I own both would never let the 250 go have already sold one 450,but brought another one they are good but can be costly.

Hands down the 250r is a better handling and faster quad out of the hole. I had a 86 250r with a 310 kit and it sucked banshees up the exhaust. Even with the 310 kit I never had problems with plugs only had problems with overheating on slower trails.
