Default 2008 Rancher 420 EFI light Flashing - any ideas?

Hello,

I have a Rancher 420 that the EFI light is flashing 2 long flashes and 9 short ones...any idea what this means? It has trouble starting and staying running. I am going to try and clean the IAC but would like to know what this code means.

Thanks!

That is code 29
It is an IACV issue

I have seen this code when the unit is turned on without the IACV connected and also when the IACV outranges

It runs with the throttle held but then dies - still flashes the same code. Anything you could tell me would be awesome. Just want to know what the heck to do with that code and get my baby running again

On the Rincon anyway, you should hear a beep kind of sound when the key is turned on.

Also, you could check to see if the IAC is working by removing it (still connected to wiring) and turning ignition on.

The book for Rincon says in a nutshell to unplug IAC and check for shorted to ground on the 4 wires, to then disconnect the PCM and check for continuity of the wires between the IAC plug and the PCM plug. Then it says to measure resistance of the black and the brown/red pins on the IAC (the two outside positions), and to measure resistance between the brown/blue and brown/yellow wire positions (the inside two). Should be 120 to 140 ohms. (This is assuming the 420 uses the same IAC as the 680).

If it is out of range, bad IAC. If it is within range, it says to replace the PCM...

Gimpster, I'm sure, will post the stuff for the Rancher, but it would be my guess the Rincon may use the same IAC, so I thought I'd post what I had in the mean time...
