I just got my 250EX and Ilove it, it's plenty fast and sporty, and just think with the auto clutch it's ideal for trail riding more time for fun. and with the 250ex you get a low maintance atv, no chain to worry about. I almost bought a recon but I was like you and wanted something sporty. just my 2cents.

We have one...
It is a great machine! the most rider friendly sport-quad I know... it's light and powerful
I can still pull the front wheels off the ground in 3rd gear!
I'm going to reverse the front wheels on ours for a wider stance and less bouncy front end, but other than that, I'm not changing a thing...
I still has an air-snorkel like the Recon too...
I've been jumping 4' jumps with it and not bottoming out, and I'm 195lbs.

Alright, I'm definatly the most qualified to answer this question. Like you, I have a Recon and need something sprotier. I researched the 250EX very extensivly (see my post "HELP! Is the 250EX for me?") and ended up finding out that for the kind of riding I do, the 300EX is better suited for me. I'm only 5'8" and 110 pounds. I do mostly MX and trail riding, and the 250EX's suspension isn't enough for that kind of riding. You can buy a used 300 cheaper than the new 250EX and the 300 has alot more hop-ups for it if your into that kind of thing. Now don't get me wrong here, the 250EX is an awsome quad, I went and test rode it at the dealer and it had alot more power than the recon, but the 300 was just more impressive, hope i can help.
