Will start fine sometimes but other times you can push the starter button and the relay will click but the starter does nothing. When it does this I can put it in reverse, rock the bike back and forth put it back to neutral and it will start right up.

 

Sounds like the nuetral start switch.

 

Next time it does it, take a small hammer or cresent wrench, tap on the starter while depressing the starter button and see if it will turn over

Most likely it needs starter brushes which is the case if it turns over while doing the above test.

It's the most common problem with honda starters

Thanks Gimpster, went home and tried that last night and it cranked right up. Nice to know its a small problem to fix.
