Default hmm a new problem

well i got everything figured out with my jetting and what not so i decided to head out for a rip. i live in ny so everything is still pretty wet but rideable. so im cruising along for about 20 min and i went to get on pretty good down a straight and it acted like it was hitting a rev limiter, but i wasn't at full throttle it was like anything past 1/4 and it would brake up. i kept the engine running and the coil was dry, around the plug was dry,cdi dry....the only spot that was wet was around the reverse switch on the right side case cover.

do you guys think that water could have cause a short at the reverse switch causeing a rev limiter to funtion? i have no clue if a 87 250x has rev limiter so im kinda lost on this one.

i shut it off on the trail and it didn't start back up, after 2 1/2 hours of pushing it home im here asking this. i did however get it to start after playing with the reverse switch wire.....but thats when i got home lol

Sounds like you may have an intermittant ground on that reverse wire, you will probably need a good manual to find a wiring diagram so you can see if any of those will short out any ingnition signals coming from your stator or coil, if I was home, I could check my 300ex manual to see if the wiring was simular, but I'm sure there are plenty of good Honda tech men here to help you out.

OOOOO, I just happened to look at my post #, damn, passed 2000 without making a big announcement, I feel so cheated !!!

congrats on reaching 2g's..

i have a manual and indeed the wire goes into the cdi box. i took the cover plate off and gooped a bunch of silicone around the switch and wire and alittle on the cover to seal everything up....went out riding today with a buddy just incase it did it again and it seems fine now....no problems even when that area got all muddy and wet.
