Default blown engine i think?

its almost a whitesh blue. i cleaned the plug up and it seemed to want to fire up but then just turned over freely. it does have quite a bit of pressure when i cover the plug hole. thats a good sign. i checked the way the plug fired on another one of my quads and when grounding to the frame it had alot more and faster spark then on the 400.

biengs my cam chain might of been what was ticking, could it have jumped a tooth. and is there also a timing chain or is that the same as the cam chain? ive got good pressure out of the spark plug hole. so hopefully the motors still good.

the cam chain is the timing chain, it may have jumped a tooth but i doubt it. it would have probably just come off if it was gonna do anything.

also if it jumped time you probably wouldnt have any compression because the valves would be opening when they need to be closed...

yea thats a good point about the compression. ima try to find a gauge tomorrow. when i plug the hole with pressure i can just feel it pulsating but if i let just a little pressure off it blows out strong. what about the coil or cdi? if it was blown i wouldnt get any pressure coming back out the spark plug hole would i?

the coil or cdi wont have anything to do with the compression, only the firing. from what you say if you have a weak spark this could be the problem. if your gonna do a compression test, you need to find out how much compression the motor is supposed to have, then test it and go from there.

thanks alot for your help. im gona do a comp test today. im hopeing the engine is fine biengs it has good blow back through the spark plug hole. and the spark does seem really weak. gona get a new one and plug and try that. but if everythings still good, ima rip the timing chain out and replace biengs its in there clanging. does the oil pump gotta be removed? just curious if it should be replaced while out? or do they usually hold up, or pricey?

when you spoke of the engine ticking while it ran then cleaned out once it warmed up... i have had a problem with quads having the oil pump going out and no working properly till the engine is warmed up the ticking could be the sound of your lifters i would check the condition of the oil pump

Sounds to me like a stretched timing chain. Maybe bent the valve. If so when you try to crank it will just turn the motor over really fast.

yes the timing jump and bent the intake valves, its bieng rebuilt right now. Mechanic said the piston was in backwards, anyone heard of this. it ran great until she blew. gota wiseco piston, valves, hot cam and port & polish on the way.
