Default 300ex gearing to 14t

Hi everyone I'm very new at ATV's. So far I love this 1996 300ex! I'm hooked already. I keep reading that this goes around 54-55mph stock. I'd like to know how much more mph would I get putting on a 14tooth sprocket in front. I'm mainly go trail riding and some straight away action.
This is bone stock except for a k&n filter. Anyone out there tried the difference between 13 and 14t?

Thanks

I tried a 12, 13 (stock) and 14 on my 250X which is extremely close to the 300EX. The 14 is ok but the type of riding I do (mostly tight trails) I went back to the 13. The 12 was wierd because I was fighting between 2nd & 3rd gear all the time. As far as top end, I don't know but I'd guess a 14 will give you 3-4 mph more.

Thanks for the reply. That sounds about right.

Hey gnxv6, I found this for you.
http://www.dansmc.com/mc_software1.htm

Not sure about the 300EX ratios but I bet they are the same as my 250X
Primary gear is 2.833
Gear
1. 3.692
2. 2.529
3. 1.857
4. 1.458
5. 1.178

Max HP is at 7500 rpm.

If you plan to do some engine mods (open up airbox, header, muffler), I would do them first before you mess with the gearing. Might decide it isn't necesary. You are going to hit the rev limiter anyway, eventually.....

Cool! It's almost 4mph faster with the 14t sprocket. I already put it on. I'm going to try it out this weekend up north michigan. I put your gearing with the 13t sprocket and only got 50mph though.
