Will fix a flat fix my flat tire?
#2
I run Fix-a-Flat in my tires all the time. It will easily fix a thorn *****, but as the hole gets bigger, you need a plug. I would just get some plugs from the auto store (the cord ones work fine) and be done with the guessing.

Fix aflat will work but it is a big mess when you need to replace your tires. I have had plenty of flats i would use a plug if it is in the middle of the tire. i have even pluged the side wall on one of my tires and it still holds air after 4 years.
just my two cents.

I have plugged my tires twice now and since I did I sprang for some tire slime and haven't had a flat since. I am sure that it makes a mess as well, but I don't care. I would much rather deal with a mess when I have to swap tires than have to constantly deal with flats.

If u dont mind spending a lil cash...the stuff from Quad Boss is top notch slime. You can get it from an atv dealer. I use it in my tires, and the trails i ride have alot of junk dumped by Lazy/cheap ppl. I've had roofing nails, construction staples, and a few other things in my tires. I just pull the item out and continue riding. The first flat i got was 3 years ago, slime in that tire is still doing its job.

Don't make a big deal out of this! Just get the hole plugged and go ride......

I found slime to just dry up after awhile, I keep some orange cord plugs, plug tool, rubber cement, and a compressor (or manual pump) in my bike kit. the orange plugs seem more pliable then the black ones, rubber cement makes them seal much better too.
I've only had one flat in my Mud Lite XTR's, a stick punctured the side wall, I plugged it temporarilly, then had the tire professionally vulcanized at a tire shop. they melt new rubber into the tire on teh inside and outside (about $25) for a great permanant repair.
