Default 300ex hitting fake rev limiter.

Ok so after a 5 hour ride through everything the creek trail can throw at me.
My 300ex as found a new problem to **** me off with.

Heres what happend.

So after a very long and very wet ride. My 300 started hitting the rev limiter or what Seems to be a rev limiter ONLY when in knee deep water. If I clutch the bike and rev the engine more it will "clear" out and ride normally. But anytime it gets in the water its banging the FAKE limiter.

I DO have a stage 2 AMR CDI and I know its Absolutly NOT hitting the CDI rev limiter. I have some other problem.

I am thinking its electrical. possibly my plug boot, as its cracked.
I also found that I had 3 cells low on acid. I have filled and recharged the battery..

Looking for suggestions

Well, good try.
But gotta tell ya its not the airfilter. This 300ex has a snorkel! LOL

I can water wheelie through chest deep water. I am 5' 7". Do this on a almost daily basis.

This Fake rev limiter thing just poped up during the last hour of a 5+ hour ride.
I am hopeing it was my battery issue. As this problem started once I started using my lower light. Im hoping my problem is just a low voltage issue.

I have 5 Headlights on this thing. 3 whites and 2 yellows.
They are all 55 Watt bulbs. Yes I know im hurting my stator,( I have a custom 200watt stator coming in the mail) I do have a Extra large motorcycle battery on this bike also. and have been running this setup for over 7 months with no problems.

What I do, Is use the 3 whites for riding the creek. and the 2 yellows and my Lower white for trail riding. As the yellow's make the spider webs glow Gold color. I hate getting a 6" OD spider on myself or bike at night. knowing that sucker is ****ed off and about to bite me!

One day I will get some pics up of this lil beast for all of you guys to laugh at :-).
The guys at the offroad parks love it. when they find out a 300ex with 22x11 dirt devils rides through stuff they get stuck in. I follow a pack of lifted rincon's, grizzlys etc...

O yea. this bike has the 400ex front end and raptor rear shock conversion, and OMG what a change! WOW! No more bottoming out on the creek beachs at 40mph+!
My only complaint is that the front is abit to soft and tends to be a bit squishy in the technical stuff. I need to stop being lazy and stop riding long enough to adjust them.

Anyways back on topic. I need to resolve this issue by tomarrow, as I have the 3rd round of parts coming in trhis week, and need to be ready for a 9 hour marathon friday night.
Yess I carry 2 gallons of fuel also. Thinking about going with the clark 3.2 tank.

And before anyone says it. YESS I will eventually go with a larger bike and stop dorking on the 300ex. But I got it for free with a clutch problem and have never looked back.
So far I have around 700$ in this bike and it goes where ever, when ever I want it to..
This rev problem is the only thing this bike has done to me in anger.

I think its ****ed off at me due to running over around 5 snakes last night. See my 300 is kinda scared of spiders and snakes! LOL

have you tried changing the oil? if you got water in your vent tube it can make the oil bathed stator act up. my 230 has a cracked side cover and when i go through water and get some in the case it starts back firing and acting up

Bro, My crankcase breather is perfect. The way I have it out of the 20-30 times its been in deep water. I have only milked my oil once.. when the bike rolled over in 5 foot of water.

Its ran with a t fitting and a large loop before going into the head.
The lower tube has a check valve on it to keep water from coming Up the tube when the bike is off and sitting in deep water. The upper tube runs up to the top of my handle bars and has a small cone filter on it.

All of my electrical has dielectric greese on them and also wrapped in electrical tape, that has been heat sealed.

Its as water proof as you can make it.

The rains are here! one full week of pure heaven! The trails will be rivers! The fun will be DEEP!
Lets hope that the few electrical BS problems I found will fix it.

Any chance of a drop of water in the gas? Drain the bowl of the carb. If you have a cracked boot replace it for sure and seal with di-electric grease.

Maybe. Im about to rip into the carb again to check for dirt. I clean it frequently due to how nasty the conditions I ride in are.

Going to dbl check my vent lines and make shure they are not clogged.

Will find out soon enough.
