Default Tires on a 400AT

Hello,

I know this has been asked many times, and I have searched and read all of the posts on this, but I wanted to get some feedback on actual use.

I am looking to upgrade the stockers on my 07 TRX400AT. I want a Mudlite tire, 1 1/8" lug, and am considering either 25x8x12/25x10x12 OR 25x10x12/25x12x12 OR 26x10x12/26x12x12. any of them on either a SS108 OR SS212 rims

Worrying about overloading the transmission/engine with the 26", however would like the added ~1/2" of ground clearance the 26" offer and of course like the look of the bigger tires. I don't deep mud ride, but in the spring/fall the trails are sloppy, and I get into 12" of soup for long runs (100-200ft). The mud I ride in is not the sticky stuff, more the sloopy wet stuff. The trails are used by big IRS bikes, thus the ruts get deep and the extra ground clearance to help my straight axle clearance would be a help.

Looking for suggestions, I don't want to get into the 26" and find I loose the 400AT spunk on the trails when not in the mud (I like to ride spirited...), OR find I cannot spin the tires and loose the function of the tire due to lack of power. I do ride in ESP when in the mud to keep the RPM's up, and the power there.

If the 25 are the tire I should consider, any input of the width? Is the wider setup (10/12) better then the narrower (8/10)?

In the "dry" summer I plan on running the stocks.

Thanks for ant advice. Chad

I ran 26" mudlites and was happy with them and have now changed out to 26" reptiles which are a radial swamplite

I also have a 400 AT and im running 25-8-12s up front and 25-10-12s in the rear i have noticed that only in heavy pulls or really sticky mud does it seem to kind of labor my wheeler, I personaly would not go with the 26s i think it will take too much out of your ride, I ride pretty spirited myself and i do fine with 25s and mine looks good with them on. We just dont have the CCs to really handle any bigger than that... Hope I helped.

Also with stock wheels in front i would only go with 8'' wide but for aftermarkets, that are @ least 7'' wide you could proly run 10s in the front and 12s in the rear

So I went with 25x8x12 in the front, and 25x10x12 in the back Mudlite XL on ITP Delta's (I cheeped out on the alloys... and got a Warn RT25 )

They work great, and the bike is still narrow enough to ride out of the huge ruts on the trails. I have got into some deep slop, and I think 26's would have been to much to spin fast. Thanks for the advice!
