3 oz oil to a gallon of gas. I had 2 250r 3 wheelers and a 250r 4 wheeler. they are very dependable and probably the most fun of any to ride(especially the 3 wheelers) Bada$$. I would say go for it if it is good shape. I still think about buying a 250 3 wheeler at times. also find someone that mixes nito for remote cars and add some flavor to your premix. Ex. strawberry.rootbeer. man that brings back memories

actually the ratio on the tank is 20:1. but ive never mxed anything ive had at that oil intoxicated level. 32:1 is what most everyone mixes. 32:1 is reccomended with the HP2 oil from honda- is what ive used in mine since 2002 and it was designed for honda's 2 strokes (kudos to the marketing on the bottle). some use other stuff (dont use the bean oil; seen to many problems with that), but it seems to do fine with HP2. i used to use it in my 2001 banshee as well.

so relibility for a 250R is A+. Take care of it and its fine for years.
my 250R is now over 22yrs old. im the 3rd owner and its only been rebuilt once- 7yrs ago. has a few bolt ons and is absolute handling machine. IMO, better than the 450R... it also has plenty of power, it'l rip. you will not be dissappointed with a good TRX250R at almost any price. id lean to an 86, 88, or 89 model though. the specs for the 87 were more unique and porting is differnt. 86 is unique but extremly reliable and the closest to the ATC version of the engine. some of those parts were used again from the 86 for the 89 model yr. the 88 is the best looking- but the 89 is the best of everything and is the rarest to find.

i find that maintenance is actually less than with my 450R.

Mix a good quality 2 stroke oil in with the gas. Klotz, bel-ray, Amsoil, etc, etc. You can use regular car oil in the tranny, although the "energy conserving" stuff may cause the clutch to slip and burn out prematurely. There are specific products out there for 2 stroke trannies that work great. The motor requires no other oil than those 2 sources.
