Default Honda TRX200SX

Keep in mind this is a 200cc Honda a 3 year run , the 1988 had a different key switch than 1986 and 1987 . I used Babbits Honda parts to reference that. But I'm betting on the same horse as you. I was sent a Dc CDI unit , I should have the new CDI AC volt April 16th. I still was wondering should a real good ground should be in with that change switch ,which is broken has been , who ever had it before me must have had the chain jump ,because you can tell it was JB welded at that change switch , it only turns a light on at this point , but does it come into play as far as ground for the CDI ? I mentioned I had to run a ground off the frame to get the solenoid switch to work the starter. Hey ,I appreciate your help , and will let you know when it's fixed. I will fix this 4 wheeler, I'm a warrior when it comes to wiring and making it happen.:

Don't know if you have noticed, but someone else is having electrical problems with the same model 86 Honda Fourtrax 200sx Huge electrical problem they have posted the wiring diagram (the coloured one) which shows a grey wire from neutral light circuit to CDI. study that diagram, and how the CDI system is wired completely separate from the battery powered lighting and starter system. The only common wire is the green earth.

Default Ac cdi

Well my AC CDI came in today ,its much smaller , I saw a web site saying you can go by the size of the CDI DC is larger and AC CDI is smaller and also referenced wires . I have 6 wires ,when you turn the key on the head light lights up with switch turned on. I don't know ,maybe it could be a DC Volt. You have been mighty patient with me and trying to help me marryman . Thanks see what your opinion is on this. I will be watching . Again Thanks

Default We have fire!!!!!!!!

I have it running again, I did have to take the carburetor bowl off and clean it . I use non ethanol gas , was green soot in the bottom , cleaned it up . And runs like new. Hope this helps anybody out. By the way , It used a DC CDI i believe because it started running with my old CDI . The AC CDI is smaller than DC CDIs .Thanks

Glad you got it running, but don't get confused about AC and DC CDIs, it isn't the size. A true DC "Igniter" has only four wires. Positive in, negative in, trigger coil signal in, negative pulse to ignition coil out. Size has nothing to do with it. Like I also wrote Honda muddied the waters with CDIs that require both AC and DC on some 300s and 350 utility models.
