Why did honda turn the 350 into a 420?

Problems: Friend 1 (a 60 year old man) Both front axles went out, front driveshaft went out, and he had to have the rearend rebuilt. All in less then a year. (and his machine would over heat for no reason, probably his fault tho)
Friend 2: Had to have his motor rebuilt, Has an extremely loose rear axle now, And something pops in the front end in 4wd.
Friend 3: Same as the first one, but just one front axle went. and his rearends still good.. I think..

While you may have personally not had any major problems with your AT (I consider a stator a major problem!), there have been enough problem posts all over the internet with this model, that it makes it our sacred duty to warn potential buyers away from this model....along with the ES shifting system on the manual trans models.

Friend 2 (willie) who had the 650 and 400 both were automatics. He never had no trouble out of his, and swamped them every ride. the 650 had about 3000 miles on it when he sold it, and the 400 had...? less, probably about 1900 or something. but traded them both in on the 420.
Both were just a year old when he got his 420 in 2008.

ranchers and rubicons are everywhre here and i havent heard of one complaint about the 420. they sell so fast, the dealers cannot keep them in stock. me and my brother both have one and we have had no problems with ours. now what i listed previously was MY gripes- but they are not going to keep me (or anyone else) from buying another one if i needed to. i am very particular about things and tend to notice things that might not bother anyone else. the 420 is a home run. period.

Rancher 420AT
My girlfriend and I both have Rancher 420AT's. Hers is '09 and mine is a 2010. We have had them just under a year and since we live in Marysvale, Utah (the heart of the Paiute ATV Trail), we ride a lot. We have not had any problems at all with them. They are awesome machines and look really good too. I think that they are the best looking 4x4 quads out there. I wouldn't trade them for any other 4x4 quads, they are our babies.

What are your opinions on the honda 420? So far, all i've seen is problems. I think honda needs to make the 420 a larger overall fourwheeler, And have it as a 450 class. the chassis seems too small for the engine. And also, from a 250 to 420 is a big jump. I think they need to bring back the best fourwheeler ever built. The 350 rancher. (still not as good as the 300, but the next best thing) lol My buddies had 350's who ran the HELL out of them, but they all upgraded to 420's and have had nothing but problems. Get back to me in this with your opinions. Thanks!
Also, did they make a 350 with a hondamatic?...
