Default 01 rancher need help

Will not start at all with the choke. Will start cold only after you prime it. Once started if you pull the choke it dies, so I guess the cable is not broken. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this thing?

For starters I'd do a plug check and go from there,a plug can tell alot.Any other symptoms after you get it warmed up,how is the idle? I'd start with the simple first, air filter condition, intake boot between carb and head for possible air leaks

Plug good. It idles fine, runs very good. Just hard to start when cold because the choke does not seem to be working.

Could be in need of a choke plunger kit,the o-ring seal on the plunger may be catching air

First off, it has a carb heater, so leave the key on for a couple minutes to let it heat up before you try a cold start.

Remove the air filter, and you should be able to look in and see how the choke functions. Cold weather makes you lean (air contains more oxygen), so it should run better with the choke, not worse. Doesn't fit any pattern I am familiar with.....

The choke plunger is on the left side of the carb where the choke cable goes into the black plastic if not mistaken 14mm screw in fitting followed by a spring and the chock valve plunger which has a outer o-ring,and a rubber seat at the pin seat. Easy to install and common to go bad. Here is a example on a 450ES #9 is the complete choke valve #12 is the heater Ranger spoke of.
