Recon OEM tires
#11
I have an 02 Recon and just recently put new tires on the rear. After searching a number of forums, there was a tie between those saying go back to the Goodyear HP Trackers and those saying the ITP Mudlites. I went with the Mudlites (same size: 22x12x10) as they were nearly half the price of the Trackers. When I saw them on the bike I said wow--these look like they could go thru anything. Boy was I wrong. My 9year old wore out Trackers performed better than the new Mudlites. When you get into a real muddy mess and you have to pour on the juice, the Mudlites dig straight down. I was quite disappointed in them. I would recommend the Trackers.

Stan,
I stumbled across something I think you'll love. While on the DGY website, I searched for the Goodyear Tracker OEM tires for my 99 recon. They have them, but they are expensive. So, I did a search for tires on DGY for a 2008 recon. They are half the price as the ones for my 99. Then I did some more recon research and found that Honda quit using the Goodyear Trackers in 08 and went with Maxxis AT's. The numbers on the tires are front:M9803 and rear"M9804. They are only available from a Honda OEM dealer. DGY is one. So, I looked at the tread on both the Maxxis and the Goodyear and they are almost identical. Why the price difference? I don't know and don't care. I ordered all 4 from DGY for my recon and with shipping it was $180 ! I still can't believe it. Maybe it's a mistake on their price but I don't think so. I haven't received them yet but am anxious.

Well, I buy almost all my stuff from RM but in this case, I didn't. Neither the 489's nor the mudlites came in the OEM sizes at RM. And even if they had, they were twice the price as DGY's OEM tires. I only paid $36 for each front and $43 for each rear. That's incredible as far as I'm concerned. And you know what? I called my local Honda dealer and they wanted $95 for each front and $108 for each rear. PLUS $23 EACH TO MOUNT ! That's robbery ! They are buying them for even less than I paid, and charging that kind of money to me? I mean, I'm all for a place making a profit but come on.

Stan,
The OEM tires came and they are perfect. And a great price. They are the Maxxis AT's. I picked up a second set of rims with bald, worn out tires on them. I plan to use these bald tires around the yard and switch to the new ones when I want to go trail riding. The bald tires will be easy on the yard. I mean these babies are bald, bald, bald.
