Recon OEM tires
#1
I've searched this forum to find what people use for OEM replacement tires on the recon and there's not much here. Everyone wants to "upgrade". My (new to me) 1999 Recon needs tires and the OEM's are Goodyear Tracker HP. It seems they have been discontinued. So, what's the closest tires to OEM that I can still buy? Anyone know?

Do the new Recons have something else???? If so, switch to that. Hard to imagine that they discontinued a tire that comes off he line on new units every day....
As for the stock tires, when mine wore out I had to make a decision on whether to change to something else or not. The original set was excellent, so I ended up sticking with them. Found a set right away at Chaparral....didn't seem like any big deal.

I bought an 09 Recon for my son for Christmas and when I put it in the shed, I really never paid any attention to the tire brand but they remind me of the OEM tires that were on an 05 Rancher I had.....Bridgestone's. At least that's what the tread reminded me of.
I sure hope that there is no rain on Christmas Day like the weathermen are saying as my son will sure want to drive the Recon!

After some investigation:
1999 Recon - Goodyear HP front & rear.
2009 Recon - Maxxis AT front & rear.
The tread looks the same on both of these tire brands.
Problem is, I can't find Maxxis AT's anywhere. I'm wondering if you can only buy them at Honda dealers. Mine wants $100 for the fronts and $109 for the rear. Plus $23 each to mount. That's over $500 for tires !
I found the Goodyears so I'll go with those. They're a little cheaper. All 4 for $298 and I'll mount them myself.

When I bought my wife her Recon, the dealer had already installed a set of 24" BearClaws on a set of aluminum ITP wheels. I also got the factory tire/wheels with the deal.
Fast forward a couple of years now, and the BearClaws are awesome. I have yet to re-install the factory tires. The bike is still nimble, still peppy and it goes thru more than I would ever imagine a little 2wd could go. I highly recommend them.

A lot of times, OEM tires are only available through a dealership, so not going to find any discount prices. I looked on the Maxxis web site and didn't find the AT's, so might be the case there???
We have a couple 250EX's, which is pretty much just a Recon in sport plastic. We run ITP TrakStars or Holeshots on them, and they will do absolutely anything a Recon will do....and usually better seeing they are 50 pounds lighter than a Recon and a bit wider and more stable! So....you might want to just look for some sport quad tires and rims and be done with all the fussing around with hard to find utility tires? Both the TrakStars and the Holeshot XCT's come in 23" front/22" rear, so you don't need to give up any ground clearance. Finding front rims however might be a problem, because the bolt pattern for a Honda sport quad is 144/4, but the front on a Recon is 110/4 (as is the rear of both a sport quad and utility).

Plus 1 on the Swampfox tires..........I just put a set on my 04 Recon and I think they are fantastic for the money. Much better than OEM. Fantastic performance in relatively deep snow. I'm surprised at what a difference tires made on this 2 wheel drive.

I also am looking for replacement tires for my 2007 Recon and want to stay with the OEM size. Mine came with 22-7-11 front and 22-10-9 rear Good Year Tracker which apparently are no longer available, or as Recon says, maybe only available from the dealer. I found that Carlisle does make tires in that size as does Dunlop and I did find Swamp Fox in that size as well. The tread on the Swamp Fox looks pretty aggressive for a little Recon, how do they ride?
I really hate to change from the OEM tire size so I’m glad at least a few companies make a match. I always figure they were engineered to perform well out of the box and any alterations may or may not be an improvement. I see a lot of posts about things that break or no longer function properly and often wonder what has been done to cause it.
