Default Snorkel on rancher no power while engines cold

My rancher has a snorkel on it but when it first starts up it idles fine. If you put it in drive it is very jerky. Goes then stops like you are running out of gas or something. After it warms up it runs fine. I was told maybe a carburetor adjustment would help but am not sure if this can really be fixed before paying the shop 60.00 an hour. Any thoughts?

Most likely the snorkle cuts down on the air intake, so you are running rich....if so you do need a rejet! Is your spark plug kind of black and dirty?

It not getting the air it needs sounds just like the problem. I have not had a chance to look at the plug since I am away for home but I was looking to get this fixed next week. Is a rejet the screw you adjust? Would you recommend a shop doing this or is it fairly easy to DIY? Thanks!
