Default ESP shifting problem (sporadic at best)

Ok here goes my 2003 Rancher is having shifting problems (three blinks) but NEVER when I am shifting going FORWARD I will spend 20 minutes driving around forward then I will stop and go into REVERSE maybe once or twice then it will give the blink code and not work!

only thing that happened before this was the rear brake was frozen from the cold and would not move until after i put it in the garage and warmed it up. Also the battery recently was drained all the way TWICE to zero BUT has re-charged and held the charge since then.

ANYONE THROW ME A BONE???

I ride in -20 degrees regularly. Shifting into reverse causes me difficulty - with no problems in forward gears. I have a Recon which does not shift automatically to neutral when the key is switched off. If I forget in -20 after letting my ATV sit for a while, I will have to manually shift to neutral to going again. In the garage, shifting in and out of reverse is never a problem

When stuck outside in reverse with engine running, rocking while in gear at idle, works most of the time.

This weekend I switched to Honda HP4 0W30 ATV oil. At room temperature this stuff pours like water. I did a long ride this afternoon at -20 with no shifting problems. This might be a solution.

I didn't leave my ATV standing outside today. I am not convinced it fixes all cold weather shifting issues.

But I hope $25 in oil would do something

Those three "blinks" are the code 3 for an angle sensor, according to my manual. Sounds like you may have to check the sensor connection. I would say you most likely need to replace the sensor itself, they seem to be the biggest culprit.

Default 2001 Honda recon will not shift

This atv had never been ridden in anything but 1st gear, the shift buttons on the handle bars do not work, I have changed tha angle sensor still doesn't work, I took f the control motor but it didn't look like anything was wrong with it. I hate to keep buying parts that i do not need. on the display ECM light blinks constant what does that mean and help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks
