Default code 5 on '05 Rancher ES

I have tested all the electrical connections in the service manual except the angle sensor with the volt meter. Will do that tomorrow. The more I read other peoples issues with the code 5, alot find the angle sensor is the problem. My question is when I push the start button, nothing at all happens. It seems that many people with a "bad" angle sensor, they can still start there wheelers, just can shift them. Are the dealers still replacing the Angle sensors under the recall?

Thank you

Code #5 is "motor driver curcuit" .. Is the bike in neutral ..?.. It should still start ..
Is far as angle sensors go our shop still changes the sensors stamped "Mexico" for free ..

Yes the machine is in neutral. I can cross the celinoid and the startor sounds fine, but will not start. (Can you start the machine with the celinoid?) With my very limited knowledge it seems to me that the ecm is bad. What would you check next?

So my problem is I get code 5, when you push the start button, nothing. When you push the upshift or downshift nothing happens.

What does the angle sensor actually do? If the angle sensor is bad, would not allow the machine to start or shift with the elec shift?

Thank you for all you help.

The angle sensor is part of the ESP system and has nothing to do with ignition at all...
The bike should turn over using the starter button no matter if the ICM or angle sensor are bad .. I would check the fuses/wires first ..

Thank you for your reply. Do you think I have 2 issues than. Code 5 and no response from the electric start? Should I take the handlebar shifter apart and check that out?

I would check the coupler for the handlebar switch and test it .. Also check the coupler on the ECU ..
