I have a 91' 250X with a rebuilt top end, running a 13 tooth front sprocket, 20" Scorpions on the back and two bald originals on the front...

my fiancee' has a new bone stock 250EX...

this weekend we had a full-on battle on all different types of snow-covered terrain in Eastern Maryland...

here's what happened:

thru a series of drag races, the auto-clutch EX got the traction and the jump on the X and maintained about a 2-quad lead until 4th or 5th gear, then my X pulled up and barely passed the EX before both machines hit top speed and stayed neck and neck until one of us let off the gas...

my prediction is that with stock tires and gears, the X would not have spun, been neck and neck from the start, barely pulled away, and would keep pulling away because of a higher stock top speed.

In the tight woods trails, the EX was un-catchable do to it's narrower stance and better tire tread...

hill climbs... the EX prevailed again with it's 5.9 inches of ground clearance, enabling it to ride the same ruts as the 4x4's... my X kept bottoming out on the rear skid plate forcing me to pull the clutch and front brakes and slide back down the hill for another attempt.

Water Crossings ??? haha, more like gone fishing... we rode down a 20' wide, 1'-3' deep endless stream... and the EX with it's snorkel type air-intake never missed a beat, even in the deep holes... my X however sucked up some water 2 times and had to be pulled out of the stream and tinkered with to get it started... Also the X kept bottoming out in the soft sand bed with it's short ground clearance, when the EX never got stuck...

When I was leading on my X, I picked out the largest jumps, most with a 4-6 foot drop, and the EX stayed right behind me, and I never heard it bottom out... I'd say we were both pushing our limits as far as suspension goes...

PS, for all you 400EXer's out there (although I love them) I don't know how many times we used reverse on the 250's that day to back out of mud holes, snow banks, off of logs, off of hills, or to just plain turn around when we decided to change direction while exploring in the woods where there are no trails...

CONCLUSION:
The 250X is gone, I just can't decide if I need the power of the 400EX or the size, reverse, and ground-clearance of the 250EX

I tell you, for my type of riding, I wish the 400EX did have reverse; then all I'd have to do is put some 22" Dirt Devils on the rear and drop the front sprocket a tooth or two to make up for it.

THE END

Sounds like you had an adventurous day. But you must remember no machine can make up for operator head space. The 250ex is probably a good machine and it will replace the 300ex soon but personally I would rather have a used 250x or 300ex before a 250ex.

My wife and I finally got to look at a 250EX the other day. The first thing I noticed was the great ground clearance.
I wish the suspension was adjustable though. My wife sat on the quad and the suspension seemed a little stiff. Also the quad seems kind of tall. The reverse and auto tranny are sure a plus though. She loves her Blaster, but I am tired of getting her out of mud and over fallen logs. I think the reverse and ground clearance will help eliminate some of that. Another plus is the hydro front brakes. I really like it but Toni is sure partial to her purple Blaster. (color is all that matters... )

BornToRace, what is your point? As 94DGBlaster was saying the 250x and 300ex is basically the same machine.

for a guy that owns a breeze and has ask quite a few stupid questions on this forum, you sure have an attitude problem.
