Default 2004 Foreman 450FM Shifter

I bought this thing stuck in gear. I looked through the oil hole and could see that the ball was still in place etc. so I stood it on the end and took the front engine cover off. I found the problem, the part that is like a loop and moves the drum(I think) was broken in half. I worked the old one out and replaced it with a new one. I could only see one way for it to go in. I hooked the spring and bolted the washer [keeper] back down like It was. I tried to shift it standing on end and it didn't seem right so I thought it was because of the position. I let it down filled it with oil and I still can't get it in neutral. I have a book ordered but don't have it. Can anyone please help me. Thank you

Thanks, The shifter doesn't flop up and down. It just isn't changing the gears. I can't get it into neutral to start it. I tried jumping it and the starter just spins and doesn't engage. I guess there's a problem with the starter now? Thanks

I got it going. The shifter etc. is alright and working. I was just jumping the gun. I can get it in all gears now with no problem. Thanks
