battery overcharged ?

Default battery overcharged ?

2005 honda 250 recon. this is my sons machine and the battery is getting overcharged. it keeps losing the acid water in it. it is a maintainence free battery but we took top apart to see what was going on it charges when running at 15.5 volts can anyone tell me what to check as for i dont have a service manuel for this quad. thanks to all.

15.5 is diffently to much......should be around 12.8-13.

Voltage regulator.

wow 15.5 at 5000 rpm seems high i figured that is what caused the battery to boil all the acid water out. thanks for the diagram. i knew how to check it but didnt have the lights on high beam or at 5000 rpm i raised rpm just a little without the lights on and it was at 15.5 but that was at maybe 800 rom thanks for info guys i love this site.

lol wow thats really overcharged, a fully charged 12v battery should be 1.2 volts per cell (12.6v)

i meant 2.1 volts per cell not 1.2

Yeah, but that's the voltage taken when the battery is not being charged. The volts going TO the battery as it is being charged is usually more. In this case, 15.5 max. My Recon reads 14.7 when the engine is at 5,000 rpm and the lights are on high beam.

Assuming the battery is an AGM type, there should not be any liquid in the battery. The electrolyte is absorbed in glass matting material, and generally they won’t leak acid even if the case is broken.

Adding water will ruin them, however.
