Default Foreman 450ES 1st gear slipping

Hi, got a 2000 foreman ES dressed up with a plow for my driveway. A couple snow storms ago I noticed that if i was in first gear pushing anything with a little weight it started to slip a little bit. Just over this last week with a nasty heavy ice mix it got worse and now even just driving in first without even having the plow on its making a strange clicking non stop and slipping whenever there is any terrain resistance. All the rest of the gears seem to be ok.

Anybody got any ideas where I should start my troubleshooting?

Thanks

I would first change the oil and filter checking for gear teeth in the oil and filings in the filter ...
