Default 2005 TRX350 Stalling at full throttle

Hey Everyone,

I'm a new ATV rider and owner. I picked up a TRX350 about a month ago and it's been a helluva lot of fun, but it's giving a few problems. I already replaced the ignition system (didn't come with a key) and the angle sensor, which fixed almost all of my issues, but I have one lingering problem.

After about an hour of riding, if I attempt to give it full throttle in a higher gear, it'll bog down, and stall out. I don't know if it's just with how I'm driving it, or if it's possibly a problem. As I mentioned, I'm a total new rider. It really seems to happen with 4th and 5th gear, and if I had to guess, I'm probably doing anywhere from 20-30 MPH. If I downshift to 3rd, and give it full throttle, it doesn't give me any problem at all.

That reason why I'm particularly concerned is the ATV was a repo. I don't how it was rode before, and I don't know how it was maintained. When I got it I changed the oil (using motorcycle oil), and replaced the spark plug. The air filter appeared to be okay -- I don't know if there is a fuel filter in the thing.

Any thoughts?

If it starts cutting out after a period of high throttle/high load I'd generally start looking for a fuel restriction.

I don't recall for sure on the older models, but I believe if you remove the petcock where it attaches to the bottom of the tank (drain the tank first, or take it off) there is a fine screen in there. Spray it out with carb cleaner.

I'd also make sure the fuel line isn't pinched or kinked, and that the tank is venting properly.

If when it acts up, cracking the fuel cap enough to let air in cures it, then the tank isn't getting air in and can develop a vacuum as fuel is consumed.

Lastly (checking easiest things first) I'd try cleaning and inspecting the carb. There could be some crap drifting around in the float bowl, or caught in the float's needle valve/seat.

Enjoy the ATV safely, and welcome to the forum.
