I recently picked up a 1992 honda fourtrax 300 4x4. The start button did not work when i got it the guy I got it from was using a screw driver to start it off the the starter motor>I am try to hook up a push start button to start it normaly and am haveing some trouble how do I wire in a push start button so i can start this thing properly? any help would be greatly appreciated

can you still kick-start it so at least it is drive-able? i would go for an oem replacement and get a service manual. that should be a solid start.

Use a test light & see if there is power getting to the starter.

 

use a test light, check the wires going to the starter button. if theres no juice, trace them down at different points and check them. if theres juice to the button, you need a starter solenoid. as for how to wire it up, use the OEM wiring system, and extend two wires to either a new OEM switch or an aftermarket push button switch. its easy to wire up. just a hot wire and ground wire.

 

if you want an aftermarket switch go to advanced autoparts. they have some for like 2 or 3 dollars.

 

My 2 cents would be for you to purchase a factory service manual...these things are great references as they are exactly what the pro mechanics use to do repair work. There will probably be a troubleshooting section as well that will help you track down the problem.
