Thanks Jeff, I really appreciate the thought.

I have a good friend here that's good friends with the owner of the local Honda dealer; I think I might ask him if he can arrange possibly a used one for me to get a little seat time on.

Curiosity more than anything. My impression is that they are a "fast trail" machine.

Yeah, they excel at fast trail riding, but I've used mine to jerk a root ball out of the ground, and to drag stumps and stuff like that. It was pretty clear it was made to handle well at speed on rough terrain (first 4x4 ATV to come in first at the Baja), but it can do work.

Kind of like some folks consider the Rubicon an excellent work quad (which it is), but it can still be plenty of fun.

If the Rincon came with low range, or the Rubicon had an adjustable preload IRS, both machines could be better at a bigger range of riding situations, for a broader range of rider preference IMHO.

Anyway, try to get a real trail ride, preferably where you can switch off machines...
