So it grabs hard when applied? Could the shoes be contaminated with something?

Maybe deglazing them with some crocus cloth, followed by another cleaning with a good brake cleaner?

Also, sometimes after cleaning drums, they will be a bit grabby until they bed in.

i have done all that and they still feel like they are grabbing. in nutural on a small hill it will not roll on its own. but my polaris rolls and another honda will roll down. when trying to push it on flat concrete its hard to roll, like the break is sticking or something. i wonder if the pumpkin needs taken apart..hmmm

I see, so it is more like they are dragging when not applied, not that they grab hard when you use them?

Warped drum? Anyway, I'd put it up on the jack and see what turns freely and what doesn't.

You could also ride it around without using the brakes and roll up to a stop, and see if the drum is hot.

that is correct. more like dragging. ive had it up in the air and they seem somewhat easier but still have a drag. the shoes have less than 100 miles on them so they have seated. it started when water and mud got in the drum. put new shoes and seals in the axle and its been doing it since. about 8 months ago is when that was done and only be riding about 60-70 miles.

I'd guess then that something (a pivot or the cable) is sticking.

Rear brakes either way out of adjustment or shoes are soaked with brake fluid from leaking wheel cylinder or gear lube from leaking axle seal.
