Default '06 Honda Rubicon Shifting Problems

First off i would just like to say.. I'm not the smartest when it comes to problems with these things and i do not know alot about them. I have studied about my problems and do know some things, however very little.

Now the problem, so i'm riding through the woods with some buddies, i top a hill and a vine that was growing down from the trees wrapped around the left front wheel, so i kept going (due to my laziness to get off and fix it) and i eventually pulled the whole tree down.. I unwrapped the vine from the tire and kept going only to notice that my atv wouldn't shift out of first gear.. The ESP, D1, and D2 lights were flashing so i drove back to the truck at a top speed of 8 mph and loaded up and went home.. i got home and searched about the problem and was seeing that lots of people are running into this situation. I checked the error code of the flashing lights on the screeen and it's giving an error code 5.. I've read that this is the dreaded angle sensor problem and lots of people have had this problem..

Now my question.. What exactly do i need to do to fix this? I unhooked the angle sensor and cleaned out around the wires and the connector and hooked it back up and that didn't help..

I don't see how a vine wrapping around the wheel would affect the angle sensor that is located on the motor.. Unless it pulled a wire loose somewhere around the tire, but i inspected under it and everything seemed to be in place.

Any help please guys?

I would say get a new angle sensor. There is also a procedure to re-initialze the computer after replacement. I think it is posted somewhere around here.

yeah this is what I have been told.. so if i have read right, am i going to have to take off my exhaust pipe in order to take off the angle sensor and change them out? also, will it hurt the machine to run it on the messed up angle sensor?

I have rode it several times like this in some pretty heavy mud and nothing worse has happened.. it doesn't really bother me that much because i am mostly in mud so i'm not really going that fast anyways

I'd get it fixed.

The angle sensor is located under the left hand engine cover. It has a 3 wire connector going to it.

You might want to check the control motor, and that the reduction gear turns before you buy the angle sensor.

If I recall correctly you clear the trouble code by holding up and down buttons at the same time for 4 seconds, and the blinking should go to long 2 second blinks.

To reinitialize the computer you are supposed to let it idle 30 seconds in N, then put it in D1 Drive and move slowly forward 5 feet.

Then put it in N and shut it off, then hold both UP and DOWN and turn key on, and release both buttons immediately.

Then press and release Up, Down, Up, and there should be a steady -- in the dash.

Immediatly move the throttle from fully closed, to wide open, and back to fully closed. (sets throttle position sensor).

Then you should hear the control motor run the transmission through it's range of motion.

If that goes ok, the -- on the dash should change to N.
