If it's not leaking, your burning it. I would do a compression and then follow up with a leakdown test.

Yeah, the tranny will not shift well if the oil is close to the add mark. Most folks run it at, or slightly above the full mark.

To get an accurate reading on these, it is really important that the machine idle for about 5 minutes in N with no throttle blipping, and then sit for about 3 minutes.

How much are you having to add?

Also, what kind of oil are you running?

You may also want to look at the pull starter. For folks that go into deep mud, grit has been known to build up in the starter assembly, which then takes out the seal.

Lastly, it might not be a bad idea to look at the plug.

well i use 10 40 all the time i have used other then honda oil to save money the oil i ran this time is honda oil just to see if it made a dif with the trans but did no difrint i dont add alot at a time. when i change oil i put in a little over the 3q and let it run for a wile and take it for a short ride then let it sit for a few min check it and add as needed and it just seemed like i had to add more then usial this time around almost every day before going riding. just got back from a week long atv riding trip out to the black hills. but now it been sitting for a week or so and i checked the oil and it is just about right on were it should be so may be just adding a little at a time to get it were it needs to be like what you were saying. just seems like my trans slips a little more then it use to and it is all been trail riding only been in mud a couple times so may just need a little more worm up before i take off from camp to trails.
thanks for the info
