Looking at an 02 Rancher, need opinons on it
#1
Hello,
As my title says, I'm pretty interested in buying a 2002 Honda Rancher ES. I've been thinking about selling my Yamaha Warrior, to get a Rancher. I wanna start plowing snow, and ride with my GF as a passenger easier.
Anyway, I found an 02 Honda Rancher ES 4x4 for sale. It has 2,100 miles or 333 hours. In addition to that it's got a moose electric lift and warn plow. The genteman wants 3400 for it. Maybe a lil lower. I'm wondering how this deal is? From
the pics the bike really looks mint, no cracks or anything, really looks maintained nicely. The bike has defin been driven tho, and even if I cam get it down to 3000, that's still a lot of money. Wondering what you guys think? The guys been super nice, sending me really quick and detailed emails. I've been seeing either beat to he'll or 4x2 ranchers going for about 2000. This is 4x4 which I'd prefer and already has the plow and electric winch. My only problem is it's about 3 hours away from me.
I just want to get opinions on what you think for that price? I'm sure the Honda motor is good, it's the es shift that I question, especially since I've read and seen not so great things with the older ones, which this one is. I told him I couldn't get the bike till next weekend, so he said well see what happens and if it's not sold by than than I guess he'd consider my inital offer (2800) or at least negotiate it a lil.
Any thoughts/advice/opinions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

if you are serious about it, it is worth looking at. be sure to test drive, check all gears and reverse, check the oil (engine and diffrentials), check the lights, test the 4wd, basically make sure EVERYTHING works as it should. 3400 is a bit much, but if taken care of, the machine will last you a looong time. good luck!

you get what you pay for is always my philosophy, sounds like a good deal. Think about it this way 2 grand for the bike and think what you would pay for the plow, plus the tubes mounting plate and winch separately. i would def test drive it and see if there is anything that you cant point out to try to get him down a little on it. I would take cash if you can and tell him all you got is 3k if he really wants to get read of it he'll take it and you both make out.

I agree that machine is pretty much indestructable ...check the fluids front and rear diff oil make sure they arent milky from water getting in them.. check the brakes.. shift through the gears with reverse.. with the machine not running make sure the gas is on and rock the machine back and forth to make sure the float in the carb isnt sticking if it is gas will **** out the bottom.. Do some really hard turns on hard pack or tar to see how tight the front end is make sure there are no clicking noises from the CV shafts.. I would even check the air breather and see how clean the filter is to get an Idea how well this guy as kept up on it.. If it passes all those tests 3000 bucks is a decent deal...
