Help with cranking aTRX300
#11
Typical Honda if it gets gas it'll run. Yeah that's what I was talking about. Take the hose off at the petcock turn the fuel on at the petcock with a cup or something under it to make sure it's not stopped up. When you prime it it may create enough suction to pull the gas through but too stopped up to keep flowing. If it flows then move to the carb. it most likely needs cleaning if it sat for that long. If you get it running and it only runs while choked then the pilot jet is clogged. There's probably a lot of stale gas slime in the bowl of the carb. also preventing it from running.

Ok, took the fuel line off the petcock and a little bit of gas sorta drips out. It definately doesn't flow out, even in the wide open 'on' position.
I don't think that's normal.
But neway, after priming it now, it doesn't really crank.
Before I get into the whole break apart and clean the carb thing (*which, yes, it probably does need that too)..what do I need to do bout the line from the stopcock? (I know em as stopcocks)
It should be flowing, right? and not just a dribble?
Thanks for your help!
You are not only helping me, my boys are getting into this troubleshooting.

It should flow a steady stream of gas. The petcock should be removed either by unscrewing 2 bolts I believe they are 8mm. that's holding it to the underside of the tank or by a big nut under the tank depending on what type it is. The tank really needs to come off to make it alot easier. After you either remove the screws or loosen the nut it along with a screen will slide out the tank, clean the screen with carb. cleaner then spray carb. cleaner into both sides of the petcock while turning it on and off then blow it out with an air comp. or your mouth. After you get gas flowing to the carb. then you can see whats next.

Someone here was nice enough to send me the link to the svc manual. I'm gonna get that stopcock off and clean it tonite first thing.
Regardless, I KNOW it will have to have the carb cleaned. Although, when it does hit and run, it sounds really good...albeit only bout 4 or 5 secs, lol. but it purrs nice.
Thanks!

Ok...
I took the tank off, took off the stopcock. didn't have any carb cleaner, but I blew out that long tube in the stopcock with my air compressor on low.
Put it back, and gas runs freely if it's in 'reserve'. But not on 'open'. Anyway, I put it in reserve and tried to crank but it wouldn't, then we noticed gas running under the 4wheeler.
it's coming from what looks to be like a drain tube that originats behind the primer **** but empties out below the atv. black rubber tube.
So, I turned the stopcock back to 'off'.
duhhhh......

If the drain tube is connected to the carb. then it's the float sticking in the carb. and not letting the needle valve seat and cut off the flow of gas into the carb. or the needle valve has crud in it and not seating.
