Help with cranking aTRX300
#31
Your welcome, that's what were here for. I have learned a bunch of stuff by asking on here and through trial and error. My thing is to find old 3 wheelers rotting in someone's backyard and bring them back to life. Kind of challenging myself to get them trail worthy again.

Well, I'll be honest. I've been taken with these things. I had a motorcycle growing up and rawhided it hard. Good fun. Then got a 4wd truck when I was 19. MUDDED every weekend.
Then..I grew up, got married, had 3 kids that are now teens.
Somewhere in there, I chose medicine as a profession and have taken care of SOOOO many kids (mostly boys) injured in 3/4 wheeler accidents.
My daughter, 17, has wanted one for years. Now, it's very expensive having 3 teens at once..19,17,13. So financially it'd be hard, but you know, you make things work if NEEDED.
I just said we couldn't afford it.
THEN...
My daughter's boyfriend, got this Honda 4wheeler.
HERE HE IS:
All it took to reignite the kid in the 48 year old dad was one good romp thru our pasture with his and gettin sideways in some mud again.
I was had, hoodwinked, smitten, had the jones, all of it..wantin back in the scene again.
Then, I was telling this coworker about it and he offered me this one...FREE!
So, there you go.
Lotsa fun in our house now. 3 sweaty teens and their friends smelling like sweat and gas on the furniture. LOL.
But, I wouldn't have it any other way....

Yeah I hear ya my daughter is 10 and she has her own 3 wheeler. We built it together from the ground up she got to pick the paint including the frame paint, the color plastics she wanted. I helped her along cleaning and prepping and restoring it, and now we ride together. I modifide the thumb throttle to govern the engine down and as she learned to ride it correctly I gave her a little more, then a little more till there's no governer on it now but she respects it and knows that if she gets stupid she could get hurt And it will be taken away forever.

Spraying carb. cleaner isn't going to clean it good enough. And using starting fluid is real bad on the engine cause when you spray it into the intake it creates a very lean condition and could in an extreme case seize the engine by overheating the piston and making it swell. Spraying carb. cleaner into the intake won't do anything to clean it cause you are bypassing the jets and going directly into the cylinder via carb. throat.

purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
That's the sound it makes now!
hahaha.
Me n the boys took the carb off and cleaned the bowl and unstuck the things in there that look like they might be stuck. Brown, floaty looking thing on a hinge..looks like a pontoon. And then some lil white collar thing that fell out when we opened it but found out how it goes back together.
DID NOT clean the jets. Thought we'd take the easy way out first.
(had the fire extinguisher ready btw)
put it all back together and primed...cranked right up.
NoW.........
Can't throttle it...it dies.
At 1/2 choke and idle, runs like a baby.
push the throttle just a little and it dies.
no choke and it dies.
Now, the air filter is total crap and I found a Honda supply house here that has one for 28 bucks. yikes.
Was wondering if I replaced it would this help? I mean, seems to me when you throttle it, it's opening that flipper and dumping air in..air that is supposed to be impeded by the filter, which, in this case is pretty much non existent.
Am I thinking wrong?
And if so,
Now what?

btw, it was nice doin it with my sons...they seemed to enjoy the thinking here.
