Default Replacing meter on Rincon

Hey need a little advice. Turn my 08 Rincon over and broke the meter plastics. Still working but I'll need to replace soon. I'm sure a new one will be set at zero miles and hours, I want to be honest when I sell this bike and not sell it with 1700 miles less showing than the new meter will show. Is there anyway to set a new meter so I can be honest or should I go ahead and replace the meter and then when I sell this bike I can show the perspective buyer the other meter so they'll know what there buying. There is enough dishonest folks in the world without me being another one. Thanks in advance for any information, and I have never replaced one othese before, looks pretty easy though or am I missing or don't know something?

I think the dealer may be able to set the odometer to the reading from the old one...

I don'tthink they can be reset. We've changed out a number - easy change - ignition off, undo cowl, unclip and unbolt the harness.
We save the old one - cos the new will be set at '0' miles

I can commend you for doing what is right. This world needs more honest people like you!

As for the mileage, just do what you said, save the old meter and give it to the new owner. Plus, there is a place on the title to make note of any mileage discrepancies.
