Default 250EX/Recon Clutch slips while cold...?

I had my 2003 250EX out a few times in the last weeks, and I always let it warm up for a few minutes before riding.

After idling for 5 minutes, I'll take it for a drive. If I am WOT (wide open throttle) in a higher gear like 4th or 5th, the engine rpms will climb but the quad does not move faster.

After about 10-15 minutes of driving, this goes away 100%.

Seems straight opposite of what a slipping clutch normally does, I thought they would slip when they got hot. I can ride it for 3 hours straight and it will not slip a tiny bit, JUST when its cold.

Because the 250EX has an auto-clutch, it almost seems like the centrifugal clutch could be the problem, but I really don't know.

Would the clutch adjustment screw at the front help?

Thanks!

clutch adjustment would be a good thing to check back the screw out til tension than a quarter turn back in. also how cold is it out and what kind of oil are you running in the machine.

Its usually about 75-80degrees or so. Not cold by any means.

I'm running an ATV specific oil (no automotive grade oil)

I'll try the clutch adjustment and see what happens!

Thanks,
