I have been looking hi and low for the perfect atv for me. I weight 230 6'2 going to be doing trail riding some jumping and light utility (want racks). The recon is in my price range but is it the wheeler for me. I dont want to get one and want to trade in a year. Recon owners feedback would be great.

Eventhough I just bought a recon for my wife and love to ride it myself I think you would be considerable to big for a recon. Im 5'7' & 170lbs and to me the quad feels a little small. But thats why I bought the rancher for me. This is only my opinion but seriously think about it and actually spend some time on a recon before you buy one. And belive me recon guys it is an awesome little machine but if i werent buying a quad for my wife and had to buy only one the recon would not be a consideration only because its size. Take for what its worth.

I had a Recon...loved every minute of it. I too am one who is, as I like to say "Built for comfort, not for speed" 6'1" 240... needless to say I think unless you are really thrashing some big air, you'll probably be suited just fine with the Recon.

You can really manhandle that bike...but then again, you will get on someone elses Rancher, and want that. Take time and save up another grand and move into the Rancher, but if the Recon hits the impulse trigger, go wtih it, you'll have a blast riding it.

 

Im 6' and 250lbs. I may look funny on the Recon but to me it is quite comfortable, and very easy to control. The only problem I have with it is on very steep hills when I don't lean enough, but thats my fault not the bikes. The Recon doesnt seem to loose much of its resale value if you take good care of it and don't trash it. So I would say try the Recon, take care if it, after you learn all the ins and outs of riding you can either mod it a little like I did mine or sell it and get somthing bigger. If jumping is somthing you really like doing I don't think either quad is the best at that. The Recon jumps pretty good even with my rather large behind on it, but I don't jump often so its not a big issue with me. I really can't see the Rancher being that much better at it due to greater weight of the machine but the similar suspension travel. Neither is going to soar like a good sport bike.
For awhile I felt that I really wanted a bigger machine like a Rancher or Forman, but after having the Recon bounce off of me a few times while going backwards down a hill I'm not sure if I want a bigger heavier bike

I have one as a second quad and I really like it, but if its your main ride, I suspect you'd like something a little larger. If it has to be a Honda, look at the Rancher 2X4 -- with the current rebate it should be about $600 more than the Recon. If you want to look further, you might consider the Trail Boss or Trail Blazer. While similar in engine size, they are much bigger machines. I'm your size and felt at home on them, plus they are actually cheaper than the Recon. You might also check out a Bayou 300 or even the Prarie 300 -- a few bucks more but also larger overall. Again, the Recon is a really great ride, but for gentleman of our dimension, its just a little small.
