Default Sprocket free play

I just replaced a broken case cover on my atv from the chain coming off. I went to put the sprocket back on and noticed it has quite a bit of wobble in it.. is this normal?

its a trx200sx 1986

Some play is normal. How much do you have? But new drive sprockets are cheap so maybe you should replace it. It could be why you threw the chain. Replace both sprockets and the chain.

the sprockets seem in good shape.. the plate that locks the sprocket seems to be the problem. it has about 1/8th of an inch play in either direction. is this to much?

Thanks

As long as when you turn that washer and put the screws in it, it locks the sprocket onto the spline, you're fine. But I still am wondering why you threw the chain in the first place and urge you to make darn sure that the sprockets and chain are replaced as a set. Especially on that 86 TRX200SX. Number one, left cases are hard to come by and two, that quad is very prone to throw chains and break the case. And even if you replace everything, you have to be diligent about keeping the chain adjusted correctly and keeping everything in good condition. And you MUST use a top quality roller chain if you want to lower the risk as low as possible. This is one of those "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound (maybe ton) of cure."

left side case had been broken before I purchased the ATV which the previous owner used jb weld and a pop can to fix. The chain had the correct tension and the sprockets had all their teeth in good shape. The chain popped off when i went to climb a steep hill which I was crawling up and just as I reached the top the chain came off and jammed up into the case allowing oil to leak like crazy. Now the front sprocket has the plate with two screws. One screw had a washer and the other didn't... do they need washers? also I want to purchase a new plate but cant find the part number anywhere. I looked on eBay which i can find a lot of these plates for different models but am unsure if they will fit... anyone help me out with this?
