Default winch cut off switch

I have recently purchased a 3000 lb winch for my trx 300 4x4. Power for this winch runs directly to the battery so I would like to put a hidden saftey shut off switch to keep the kids from tearing things up. My question is will I lose power or damage anything if I use a 50 amp rated switch on the ground wire to interupt the circuit. The winch pulls 100 amps and I was told the switch might get a little hot but it should be fine. any advice?
