250ex and the Recon

From what i heard the 250ex is a Recon with a sporty makeover. Is this true? What is different between these bikes? Could I have gotten a Recon and still have almost the same bike as the 250ex?
Just wondering

250EX is 50 pounds lighter with 10% more power. The gearing is a little different as well. From what I could tell from a brief ride on the EX, it doesn't ride any better and the seat is not as comfortable as Recon.
