I recently bought a brand New Recon and my first time to take it out (rode for about 3 hours) it used 1/2 qt of oil. Has any one had this problem.

Did you beat it or let it break in easy?If you checked the oil hot,it might not have drained back into the bottom of the engine completly.Let it sit for 5 minutes or so.

Did you check it before you rode or trust the dealer?? If you don't have any leaks or have oil in your air box fill it up and ride and keep track of it.

I think it would smoke oretty bad if it burned a half quart in three hours. It would be as bad as a two stroke, maybe worse.

Check above your recoil, and if so you have a plugged crankcase filter which is right under the air filter.

TXRIDER; My recon came from the dealer almost a quart low, but I really haggled them over the price and lost my dealer servicing. They must come from the factory with a minimal amount of oil?

Yea, mine came a quart low, but caugt it before I rode it. This happened after topping the crankcase off and taking it pretty easy those first three hours.

OK; I've got the picture. You would think after three hours of riding that the rings should be pretty well seated. The idle on my recon went skyhigh after two hours of riding and I figured it should be close to being broke in, but I could be wrong. I was very gentle with the throttle in those two hours and it did'nt seem to use any oil to speak of. If your quad used that much oil every time you went out, then I would check back with my dealer.
