Default Electrical help with 1999 Foreman ES

I just installed a new winch on my 1999 Foreman ES. I have the winch working, but in the process I must have shorted something. When I turn the switch on I see nothing on the display.. and no starter. I checked all the 3 fuse areas and could see nothing wrong. I should also mention that when I first tested the switch to see if the display work, it worked fine. Then I failed to turn the switch off and began doing final connections to battery etc. The manual specifically says the switch should be turned off when connecting/disconnecting battery. My foolish mistake. I expect that messed something up.. again checked fuses and didn't see anything wrong there. Any advice would really be appreciated. thanks in advance. Dave
