If you dont want it louder

go with an HMF pipe that jars the windows

if your behind mine and you rev it your insides will shake..

but i couldnt live without it... anyway

What are the benifits of being loud. I never felt that a pipe did much on a stock motor. But a Lexx pipe would do. I think they come in at 96db with the quiet core. If you want fast/power spend your money on a cam or suspension .
Jets- start with Main 150-152 and the f/a screw 3-3.5 turns out (for a stock motor).

Its a regional thing. Around here if you have a screamer and you ride "private" trails you will have problems rather quick. There is a fair amount of people and not alot of open land.
If the kid is looking for hp. you could spend about 250 on a pipe (parts)or spend about 250 (parts) and get a 11:1 - 416 piston with hd head studs installed and bored. Just saying...
If he wants a pipe lexx is a good way to go. But I think it will only work with a stock header.... So you cant use it with full exhaust. If its a power thing he has options. Hope this helps.

so if i went to WI i'd probably be banned

(sorry, always wanted to use the ban face )

yeah- i do agree what you say about HP, but i like to leave the engines stock- a lot of problems can arise i've heard of..
(overheating,,,, ... )

anyway- ive always wondered how much more power a 400ex has than a 300ex? do you know jgar?

I had a 300ex before I got my 400. HP wise I dont know the difference but a quick google search can answer that. I can speak to how they feel. My 300 was a blast because of its size. I could haul down the really tight trails. The best thing about the 300 was any little bump would launch it really far.
When I first got my 400 it felt way faster but lacking in the low end so I droped the front sprocket from a 15T to a 14T. Now it has awsome torque but its not fast enough. The 400 is not known for it top end anyways.
The power increase is substantial but not overwelming. The 400 handles much better all around so it feels much faster. In the corners where the 300 would feel tippy the 400 feels perfectly stable with minimal body english. All you have to do is lean and mash the gas and its instant powerslide.
