420ES with really strange reverse shift problem
#1
Hi,
We've got a Honda TRX 420FE (ES) thats acting very strange.
The electric shift works perfect. However when put in reverse, the display shows a constant "-", not the usual "R". The "-" is not flashing. You can go in reverse and release it to Neutral all right with no problems.
However, if the ATV is put into Reverse and you turn off the the ignition then the gear shift locks up. The display still shows a constant "-" but the ATV is stuck in Reverse. There is no sound of the gearbox trying to shift into neutral, in fact there is no response at all when hitting the up arrow or down arrow. The only way to shift out of Reverse is to use the manual tool for shifting it into Neutral.
You can put the ATV into all gears including Reverse, back and forth as long as the engine is running or the ignition is on without the engine running. But if you turn the ignition off while in Reverse, it is stuck.
There are no error codes.
Any ideas? We have spent quite a bit of time on this so far.
