1987 Honda 250 Dying after running a shot while
#1
Hi Everyone. I have a buddy owns a Honda 250 2 wheel drive which has been garage kept and well maintaned. According to him his bike will fire up with no issues and run for a mile or two then just up and dies once it has warmed up real good . He has cleaned everything up. He has put fresh fliuds, fuel and filters on it. He did notice a little bit of gas tank rust in the bowl though. Since then he has verified there is no issue with the air intake, Spark or fuel. The hoses look good and he does not think there is any of them leaking. Does anyone have any other input? We would appreciate any ideas you might have so we could get her up and running again. Thanks in advance.

It could be a gas tank issue. It sits and gas fills the line and the carb slowly. Then he runs it and it drains the line faster than the tank can feed it. That's an easy thing to do is clean the tank. Also the filter IN the tank. Kreme it. But it may also be a coil issue.

Well, dont ride with NO cap, gas will splash out and dirt and junk may get into tank, but loosen the cap and see if that helps. When it dies, open the gas cap, do you hear a hiss like arr either being sucked in or blown out? that would tell you the vent is plugged/ bad. But if it has been sitting, there could be a bunch of sediment/varnish in the petcock, and it does have a screen on it, so maybe drain the tank, pull the petcock off and clean the screen and blow carb cleaner through the valve to make sure it flows good. Maybe replace the fuel line to the carb with clear/transparent tubing so you can see if the bowl is running dry from lack of fuel flow.
