Default 1987 trx250x rebuild

I've got a 250x that needs a bit of tlc the rocker cover bolts are missing and stripped.its got a homemade exhaust on it so I'm gonna rebuild the whole quad anyone got any suggestions?


p.s i already have a 05 300ex with a powroll 330 big bore kit,hard faced rockers,valve job,stage 2 web cam,400 ex carb,dyno jet kit,k&n filter,pro circuit t4 exhaust

I'd use some timeserts (threaded inserts) for the rocker cover bolts, helicoils would work too, but I like the inserts better. A used original pipe should be easy enough to find on ebay for it. When it comes to the rebuild, I'd definitely recomend taking the jug to a machine shop along with the new piston and have them bore the cylinder to fit the piston.

I had a 250x and still have a 300ex. The 250X gave my modified 300EX a run for its money. Something to consider to do to the 250X is get an aftermarket exhaust, jet it, KN or UNI air filter and put one tuth larger front sproket on or 2 teeth less sproket on the rear. With the sproket change I did not notice any loss of torch but I did pick up top end. Ballpark 60MPH. Those are the mods I did to the 300.

I agree with oldsman, pull it apart. I would just replace the head if you tear that far into it.
